Trying Valour and Fortitude (VandF)
Intro game of Valour and Fortitude at 250 points: French (blue) vs British (red).
⚔️ Intro game of Valour and Fortitude (250 points)
I wanted to road-test Valour and Fortitude with a quick intro match. 🎉
I built two 250-point forces—French (blue) against British (red)—to feel the core rules and how orders flow.
🗺️ Deployment and objectives
- French (blue): infantry line with light guns and dragoons on the flank to try a wrap.
- British (red): two veteran brigades, batteries up front, and light cavalry to plug gaps.
- Objective: push the British off the hill and break their line before turn 6.
🧭 How it played out
- Opening fire: British guns softened the blue line, but the French pressed on under shelling, banking on their initial morale.
- Clash on the hill: French columns climbed under fire and hit the red line, which dug in on the crest.
- Cavalry swing: French dragoons threatened the flank, but the British formed and held, keeping the height.
- Closing turns: the British stood firm on the hill; casualties were even, and the French couldn’t shift them before the limit.
📝 First impressions
- Fast turns: morale and cohesion matter more than individual casualties.
- British discipline while defending the crest made the difference; the French column push wasn’t enough without better guns.
- At 250 points it plays quickly and works well as an introductory scenario.
🔎 I’ll keep tweaking lists and objectives to see how the system scales with more units and varied goals.
